Fashion
Fashion is well represented on Ibiza with most of the big international superstars having outlets in Ibiza town, pandering to the fastidious dress sense of the Spanish female.
However, Ibiza has its own burgeoning fashion industry which celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2004. 'Moda Adlib', meaning 'as one wishes', was founded in 1974 by Smilja Mihailovic and Maru Garcia and became internationally renowned for its typical 'Ibiza style', which was fundamentally a combination of traditional Mediterranean styles and the crazy hippy influences - comfortable, romantic, playful and discreetly seductive.
However, there were house rules - the Adlib clothing in the early days used light, natural fabrics and the skills of the local seamstresses, taught throuth their families down the generations. These included embroidery, lace making, knitting and flouncing. Each article had to be designed and created strictly on the island.
Nowadays, there are dozens of designers creating under the Moda Adlib motto, as the island government have become more and more involved over the years, but not all, nowadays, adhere to the strict rules that governed those early Adlib designers.
Realistically though, this is in the nature of fashion - perpetual change, often for the sake of change.
Much the same could be said of almost any other artform.
