Colin Casbolt - "The Bard"
It doesn't seem twenty-six years since then, but I still remember every single moment of that day. Anu was so pretty in her Gimmick dress and there was I in my flares and satin shirt. It really was a wedding of love and nothing's changed. We still have the same beliefs, ideas and children who uphold the same. All that we can do is wish the same for you.
The Wedding
Just look at her so young and fair
The sunlight glinting in her hair
I came with her to tie the knot
To do our best to keep the plot
It started out with us alone
In bright, enchanting Leytonstone
Our best man had gone to the Gate*
To sell a weight* - I bet he's late
But who should roll up, my mate Phil
I loved him then, I love him still
He gave a pipe, a real good toke
And so we sat down for a smoke
We got so smashed the time went by
Imagine getting wed on Thai*
The grass was fine, such joy, a treat
And then of course to Joe's to eat
The bacon, eggs and beans and chips
Were soon devoured by stoned out lips
And up the road we drove with joy
The happy pair, the girl and boy
The clerk was great, he held it tight
Although he gave my love a fright
It seemed we'd have to stay all night
For her to get the vows out right
However, soon the deed was done
And out we ran into the sun
The first day of our wedding bliss
With love and flowers and a kiss
As we went skipping down the street
We heard the cry, a mournful bleat
"Are you the ones who tied the band?"
Our marriage form was in his hand
So that was it, a blinding day
We all went home to smoke and play
We had our presents and our friends
Lets hope this life it never ends
It's now near thirty years since then
And I still love my girl, my friend
With all our girls - the fun and zip
That day kicked off a wondrous trip.
