Colin Casbolt - "The Bard"
Everyone goes on about the 60's and the magic of the freedom, sleeping on beaches,no responsibilities and the road with nowhere special to go. the other day I was pottering around in the kitchen, and suddenly became conscious of singing Bobby Magee to myself. I had to sit down as it all suddenly rolled back 25 - 30 years and how quickly it has all gone. Let's hope the spirit of the road lives on and that we all keep at least some of the ideals and the love to pass on to our kids and friends.
Me and Bobby Magee
Were you lucky enough to have sat by a fire
With your mind full of love, full of joy and desire
Were you lucky enough to have sung Bobby Magee
To have felt such a feeling as you gaze at the sea
To have gazed by the firelight at someone you adore
And felt such a rushing, a wondrous roar
Or sat down the next morning by the roadside to stare
At all of the people just rushing nowhere
Have you ever had the feeling of nowhere to go
and gone out to get there so gently and slow
or have you ever laid down with your girl on a beach
and gazed at the moon so near so in reach
Feeling good was good enough for me
good enough for me and Bobby Magee
