Ibiza is an island - it's completely surrounded by sea. This has an upside and a downside particularly when it comes to getting around, if you happen to be a 'global village traveller'. They've invented aeroplanes now and built an airport, but that's not much use in the winter, because the planes only go to mainland Spain. So for much of the time transport depends on boats, which are therefore very much part of island life.
I come from Nottingham, which is about as far as you can get from the sea on the island from which I originate, so my experiences with water are limited to those involvong a tooth brush, a bath or watching opposing football fans being thrown from Trent Bridge into the river of the same name.
Living here has changed all that. I have become an ardent sailor after just a few days at sea. There really is something special about the business of being borne about by the whim of the prevailing wind. The endless hours of reflection whilst awaiting your arrival at the next port of call. Like a washing machine for the head? Even if your being thrust along by twin Merlin engines that raise a bow wave on the shores of other islands, the feeling of freedom is equally strong...
So here we tackle the difficult questions incumbent upon a life on the ocean wave. Personally I don't have a boat and I use the term 'sailor' cautiously after my few days at sea, having learnt such useful phrases as 'port is red - is there any port left?' I'm a little worried as to how effective this knowledge would be in an emergency - so in addition to 'How to purchase a boat in Ibiza' information, we are including the 'boat charter' option where you get a skipper and all of the other staff that you might
need to gloss over your nautical inadequacies? (No offence intended).
On the other hand - this is supposed to be a holiday?
