Officially the name of the Island in Catalan is Eivissa.

The name in Spanish is Ibiza

654 BC The Phoenicians founded a port on the Balearic Island which was named 'Ibossim' This was taken from the Phoenician Iboshim dedicated to the god of music and dance.

The Romans called the Island 'Ebuses'

The Greeks called the Island 'Pityƻssai' the translation is 'Pine covered Islands'

Over the years the Island has picked up many nik names.

White Island. Magic Island, Party Island
