Ibiza Arts Decor

Since days gone by, when the island was occupied by the Phoenicians and then the Moors, it has often been associated with the arts. This may have been the result of the curfews imposed by the time when music and art were the only alternatives on those long winter evenings, before TV turned up. It could, however, have had something to do with the stunning scenery, or the quality of light this far south of the Alps ?

Whatever, Ibiza remains a haven for artists and 'wanabees', and locally produced, often spectacular, art is commonplace. The most renowned part of the island's artistic quarter used to be San Carlos , just north of Santa Eulalia, and although many have moved on, it remains the sort of place that any aspiring artist would still prefer to claim to hail from.

In the meantime the abundance of artists and a shortage of wall space in San Carlos has seen a proliferation of art galleries spring up all over the island.

Although this list is only of those that we know about, and what they are currently showing, we cann ot guarantee to be up to date fr om one minute to the next - nonetheless we present everything about which we have been informed, or found out about in the meantime.

Sneaking quietly up in the background has been the generally noisy art of music, and another vaguely connected art form - film. The list of movies that have already endowed the islands with 'perfect location' status is already formidable and continues to grow. As independent documentary and movie makers gain in stature and, hopefully, more responsible ethically to meet the demands of Europe's more cosmopolitan modern audience, maybe they'll start enjoying the bright side of life - and this is about as bright as it gets...
