Another small beach a couple of km to the north out of San Antonio. Quite safe for kids, in a small bay, but just far enough out of town to deter all but the determined. If your car breaks down and you're in San Antonio - consider this as an option.
Its close enough to walk from San An but worth it for the tranquility that pervades this twee little pair of bays. About 100m & 40m wide respectively & seperated by a spit of rock with traditional boat houses built into it. Local kids entertain themselves jumping off the roof of the tallest into the shallow water, their screams of delight are almost the only sounds to break the peace & quiet that encompasses the rest of what appears, on the face of it, to be quite a busy beach - sunbeds & umbrellas cost around 3 euros each.
Along the cliffs to the north, the tiny Gracionetta is a similarly tranquil beach that would originally have been a "torrent" (a rainwater stream flowing down from the mountains when it rains). Follow the small path at the far right of Cala Gracio beach and around the headland.
The mouth of the torrent, overlooking the beach, is now a restaurant serving fish & pasta dishes under pine trees & sun umbrellas to about 2 dozen tables scattered over the terraces, some of which have been subtely built into either hill side.
Everybody is relaxed, the kids are perfectly safe and the beer monsters in the center of San An can't walk this far. We kill the third annoying fly of the day - life is looking good. |
