One of the islands larger beaches, but never packed and rarely busy, it lies between the airport and Cala Jondal. Taking the road from the airport towards San José there is a left turn signposted Cala Jondal after 1 kilometer. Two kilometers along you reach the beach on your left marked by a sign for the "Chiringuito".
The beach is almost a mile long and consists of small pebbles, but these are not impossible to sunbathe upon. The sea has a curiously milky quality with a view to Formentera and a fine selection of waves. At the Eastern end are the impressive cliffs of Cap d'es Falco and the end of the airport runway, making it an idyllic spot for plane spotters. At the other end are a collection of picturesque fishermens huts.
The beach is favoured by hippies, particularly the Chiringuito at the Western end with its ambient music and pleasant breeze from the sea. They serve a large range of fresh fruit juices and are relatively inexpensive for a beach bar, particularly on this Southern stretch of coastline.
There are also bocadillos (sandwiches), pastas and pizzas available from the bamboo kitchen. A relaxing alternative to most of the other beaches on this stretch. |
