Vicent Mari explained on Friday that the car park being planned for the centre of town would get underway at the end of summer. The mayor said all of the permits had been received and the Town Hall was merely waiting for the green light from the Environmental Department. This is expected to be given over the next few weeks, which will ensure work can begin on time.
The project plan is to build an underground car park on the site of the current parking facilities between calles Margarita Ankwerman and el Cami de Missa, just behind the Town Hall building.
On ground level a huge public square will be built which is to include walkways, a bowling alley, a multi-purpose Town Hall building, as well as a stage for concerts. The entire project will cost in the region of €6 million and will take a year to complete. A number of the 407 parking spaces will be sold off, with the rest being granted to a company on a 75-year lease.
Once the work is complete the Town Hall will then pedestrianize la plaza España and s’Alamera, something which will ensure the traffic needs to be redirected in the area.
