It seems the main complaint from Brits visiting the island remains the lack of parking, particularly in Ibiza Town and Playa den Bossa. The issues irritating British visitors to the island were discussed in a meeting between the Island Council, represented by Pepa Mari, and the Spanish Tourist Office based in London (OTM) at the recent World Travel Market. The president of the office, Josep Tur Olmo, added that the second complaint received by his office was the lack of activities during the winter months. In expanding on the first complaint, he stated that the Brits did not expect to park their cars for free, but merely wanted easy and accessible parking.
Mayor Lurdes Costa said she understood the complaint, but said it was a problem with a difficult solution. She continued that it was impossible to offer all locals, plus all the hire cars in summer, a parking space, and encouraged tourists to use public transport once on the island.
Meanwhile Olmo was far more down-beat than the rest of the delegates at WTM about summer 2010, claiming the devaluing pound and the recession, which continues to bite in the UK, would ensure it would be yet another tough year for most. However, he said there would be no hard evidence until March/April, and that if the hoteliers launched special offers, there was still a chance of salvaging the season.
