Unanimous Vote Club Nautico

The president of the Port Authority, Francesc Triay, was embroiled in yet more controversy last week as he declared his opposition to the renewal of Club Nautico Ibiza’s current contract.

The concession to run the marina in Ibiza, now more popularly known as Club Nautico Ibiza (CNI), is up for renewal in ten months time, and while all of the political parties on the island are in agreement the new contract should go to CNI, Triay is not so sure.  Whilst on a visit to the island the president revealed his administration had ordered an independent report into the matter, which revealed the process of automatically giving CNI the right to run the marina for the next twenty years was incorrect and not impartial.  He claims the concession should be put to tender, and that the “special interest” label, which was granted by Congress on Wednesday, should be withdrawn.

In a rare turn of events all of the political parties were in agreement during the Parliamentary session on Wednesday when a vote was taken to categorise the marina concession as one of “strategic interest” which would allow the contract to automatically be awarded to CNI.  Both PSOE’s and PP’s representatives in the Balearic Parliament, Jose Manuel Bar and Enrique Fajarnes, said the Port Authority should take this interest into consideration before the final decision is made, one which rests with the State Port Authority.  However, towards the end of the week the Port Authority’s stance seemed to alter just slightly as the weight of support for CNI began to take effect.
