You can do without most things at a wedding, but a Celebrant to host the
ceremony is not one of them! Sometimes, Celebrants (that is what they
do) refer to themselves as 'Officiants' or 'Ceremony Master'.
Remember that unless you are a Roman Catholic, or a resident of
Spain, you cannot marry on Ibiza. If you are both Roman Catholics, or
Spanish residents, contact you priest, or a town hall on Ibiza.
Most people select to marry quietly in a registry office in the
UK (or their home country) and then hold a celebration ceremony on
Ibiza. The general term is a 'Blessing Ceremony' is one which covers
those with religious content, and those with Spiritual or Humanist
themes. The ceremony can be a copy of a church ceremony at home, but it
has no legal status.
Remember that the ceremony (like the rest of the wedding) is
YOURS, and you should be able to choose who you want and whatever
content you want. Do not be misled or side-tracked – get what you want –
after all, it's your big day, and you are paying.
There are numerous people on Ibiza offering themselves as
celebrants. Like venues, they vary immensely. The diverse culture of
Ibiza is demonstrated by the variety of celebrants.The celebrant is
vital to the success of your day. Choose carefully – deal with them
direct – not through your wedding planner once an introduction is made.
Would you have your wedding dress or suit made via a third party?
Choose a Celebrant you feel comfortable with and who will
deliver the style of ceremony you dream of. Do they have the presence
and personality to command the ceremony? Will you hear and understand
them? Clear diction and a strong voice are essential. How much care do
they take in preparing your ceremony? If they don't bother with the
preparation, what will the ceremony be like? Be clear about the price,
and what you are getting for it. Are there any 'extras' that will

should match the other parts of the day. They will impress your family
and friends if you choose well, and give you the wonderful wedding day
on Ibiza that you had long dreamed of.
