On a nice Sunday, even in February, there is one beach where you can guarantee not only to find a crowd scene and cool tunes, but also rub shoulders with many of the island's movers and shakers. You won't be talking business with them at this time of the year as most are walking the dog, but the atmosphere is nonetheless conjugal and about as laid back as you could wish for.

Sunday newspapers are in abundance in a variety of languages and pass from table to table as do most of the assembled beach lovers (and their dogs). It's hot enough to get your T-shirt off and begin work on that 'Yes, I live here all year round' sun tan that the summer visitors will die for.

The music is usually excellent, quite chilled, but perfect for the setting as you look out to distant Formentera. (cameraman's note: music policy was definitly chilled and didn't impose - we caught catches of a laid back Stone Roses "Fools Gold" with Lenny from Ibizarre's "Universal Unfolding" - great to drink, eat and watch the world go by).

Today though your correspondent is suffering from a nasty ear infection leaving him quite deaf, so detailed analysis of the music policy will have to wait until his ears have been syringed! Yes - it is possible to catch a nasty cold one week and sit in the sun sweating, wearing only a pair of shorts a few days later. The place heaves in the summer, so this is one time of year when you can visit and stand a reasonable chance of a table - incidentally they serve food which looks quite good…unfortunately the taste buds were blocked too so judgement remains reserved?
