· Well it's March 9th and a Friday afternoon. Quaintly referred to as POETS day in the land of 9 till 5 (Pxxs off early tomorrow's Saturday). It is actually 5 o' clock so the early doesn't really apply, but its sunny on the beach at the opening of the first beach bar of the season - "Niu Blau", just up the road from Santa Eulalia on the way to Es Cana.
This pretty beach has a bar/restaurant at either end but the Niu Blau is the user-friendly option. The staff are laid back and the setting idyllic and fortunately word hasn't gotten around so we share the bar and beach with no more than a couple of dozen other early beach aficionados. Waiting at the bar proved to be fruitless as the booze was free and getting suitably chilled in buckets full of ice on the terrace overlooking the beach. There's plenty of room at our table so we obviously had to phone a few friends to fill it...
