SOS

C/Monte Aconcagua, Cala Llonga

A legend in its own time!

SOSRamon & Cathy

SOS has an international approach with its menu, but there’s a Mediterranean focus which highlights lots of traditional Spanish dishes featuring fresh fish and meat, all beautifully cooked.  You’re always given a nice welcome if you call in for a tasty snack during the day, then you’re warmly welcomed again if you go back in the evening for the Chateau Briand or the Red Snapper!  I can certainly recommend both from personal experience, together with their renowned paella which is one of the superb Sunday specials.

Ramon and Cathy have together worked incredibly hard over those twenty three years to build it up, from what seemed like a bar & cafeteria in the early days to a really wonderful restaurant now. They always have fresh fish on display, ready to be cooked to order, plus beautifully fresh meat too.  Yasmina and Christina make up the family team, so you really are well looked after.  They are open from 9.30am through ‘til late, but at 11.30 the kitchen closes.  SOS is a big place, with seating for 120, and another 18 completely inside.
SOS is a real landmark. Situated on the Southern corner of the beach square, with great views down across the sand to the sea beyond.

See the display boards too for details of free live music, and flamenco displays

When I first visited Cala Llonga, many, many years ago I remember thinking… SOS?  That’s an odd name for a restaurant…. So I asked Ramon the owner “why SOS?” – he replied - “Well, when we moved here I thought, we’re by the sea, and when you need rescue from the sea you call SOS.  So, when you need rescue from hunger…… Call at SOS!”
Ah! Easy really….  And SOS have been rescuing people from hunger for twenty three years.
Everyone who comes to Cala Llonga knows SOS and it’s nautical theme.  Featured in the décor are fish nets and shells etc. while a few large sherry barrels add to the atmosphere.  SOS sticks in your mind because it’s a great place to eat and socialise, and that’s not just a cliché.  This is simply a lovely family business, and whether you speak Spanish, English, German or some Italian, SOS can understand your cry for food!

Open from Easter to the end of October, Cleverly devised sliding window walls allow you to enjoy fresh air with shade, but shelter is easily available if a quick summer squall suddenly appears.  Although open plan with a large main restaurant floor, Ramon has cleverly laid out the tables at the edges in several quite distinct areas, and that gives the feeling of a much smaller more intimate restaurant.
The Spanish atmosphere is carried through with the music, and a wide range of traditional guitar and singing, so if you like the Gypsy Kings, you’ll love SOS.  SOS really do know how to party Spanish style!

No TV or karaoke, but WiFi is free.  Impeccable loos, and naturally, wheel chair access if required.

You can reserve a table on 971 196 064, or alternatively order a take-away if you fancy some fine food on your own terrace.
Being a family business there are high chairs, a scrummy children’s menu, baby bottles can be warmed, and there’s space for changing.
SOS is spacious which means that pets (and their owners!) are welcomed and free to enjoy the outer edges and terraced area.
Like any restaurant, cash will do nicely, but so will credit and debit cards, and even AmEx is accepted here.

So, when your tummy cries
‘Help, - I need food’!  Forget 999, 911 or 112, Just remember  . . . _ _ _ . . . which as every Boy Scout can tell you, means SOS!!!
